hospital
Hello friends
For those concerned, I made it through the surgery
on Saturday and have nothing but high praise for
the wonderful doctors and nurses at Mass General
the fellow I shared the room with was in worse
shape than me, if you can believe it, and he at 70
(I am 2 years older than him) he had a great
attitude saying "We're still breathing."
The bone was protruding from my arm... all i
saw was blood pouring from the knee and arm
...the head numb (that really hurt...let the docs
look at the cat scans, x rays ...we don't need to
see 'em.... at least i don't want to....
so i go to the gym to shower and they are horrified...
staffer #1 ---a very good friend - wants to bandage
me---i'm oblivious...probably was in shock ---
went to the shower to wash the blood off, silly
me...u cannot wash off what is pouring out, but
again, i was dazed and confused
staffer Alex comes into locker room, my towel getting
bloodier {i'm sparing y'all the blood photos I sent
Matheus and new PCA Steve) ...Alex smartly calls
ambulance (I was ho hum going to drive home)
and six people descend on me and the ambulance
drivers create a brace right away for the arm and
patch up the leg....
MGH was freaked a)that I was
able to get to the gym b)how bad it was
Ryan at emergency room gets a gold star,
(not to be confused with Dr. Ryan, and another
nurse named Ryan.... file under Ryan, Ryan and
Ryan health care I guess)....and here's the really
good news, they put me into emergency surgery
instead of Sunday morning (which would have
meant me still being there today and not typing
this to y'all) ....
Now come the anesthesiologists,,,
they put me in pre-op and said "We think your
heart is much too weak...." and they tell me
they want to stick a needle in the right side of
my neck which means I will be awake while
they clean off the bone protruding out of my skin
and put it back in place....right....no friggin' way
we spend 20 to 30 minutes in discussion,
and I resign myself to the fact I may never
wake up, but I'm so hurting and banged up
I go for the anesthesia.
What music do you want to hear?
Singer Bobby Hebb and I were best of friends,
and Sunny being one of my all time favorite
songs (and I was going to lunch with Bobby's
daughter at the Kowloon on Sunday....oh well)
they played Sunny. Tears were streaming down
my eyes and the nurse wiped them....I mean
if it's the last song I'm going to hear in my life
let it be Sunny....me being Bobby's producer
these days...his voice would have been the
last...I drift off.....and awake in a Twilight Zone
moment.....Ok....i made it through the rain
where am I, you know? ....faces adjusting,
me not knowing where I am...but knowing
where I am...all a blur to me
tons of well wishers on Facebook really meant
a lot....the kind care and patience from the
medical staff...I'm home today, my PCA will
be over to check up on me, my car is still
at the gym, God Bless Them, Matheus in
Virginia but God bless him, worried about me
and keeping me sane....we have an amazing
trip to Maine on April 12, and two weeks
later this....we were with his landlords on
April 11 the Saturday at the Encore (we don't gamble,
they do, free Cranberry juice) things were
fantastic and that John Lennon quote he
probably got from somewhere else
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans"
the doctors were buzzing about my jokes,
I didn't think they were THAT funny, must've been
my timing.....
