When the now ex mayor, DeMaria, showed up in October of 2025 at 21 Whittier Drive's community room, it was not a pretty sight. There were no throngs of people, just some of us seniors grabbing a free lunch. DeMaria walked up to me, intriguing since I never met the guy before:
"You criticize me and you eat my food."
Michael Corleone he's not.
"Your Honor, I used to love you" I responded, the TV station you did an excellent job with, and the Encore Casino, but that $180,000...."
Carlo's response: "Joe, let me tell you about the 180,000...." but I turned and walked away having already heard the lame excuses.
I KNEW MAYOR VAN CAMPEN WOULD WIN THAT DAY IN OCTOBER, but always hedging my bets I said nothing. However, inside we had that warm, fuzzy feeling that a great new mayor, an honest mayor, was coming to the corner office in January of 2026, and we were right.
ALOT MORE WENT WRONG THAN JUST THE 180K/ 260,000$$$$
The media, the Globe, the Herald, TV, the usual suspects, focused on the ludicrous attempt to keep the "longevity payments" or whatever the hell the DeMaria Administration wants to label the fraud. Yet it cuts much deeper than that. The DeMaria fall started with the resignation of his "heir apparent," that insufferable jackass Anthony DiPierro.
That was the crack in the armor. An over 30 juvenile delinquent making racist remarks? DiPierro and his thugs still do not get it. They still do not understand how being racist anywhere, let alone in the diversity that is Everett, is a bad thing. A very bad thing, and Carlo DeMaria can distance himself from it all he wants to: the DiPierro stain is all over his Donut apron sticking to Carlo like glue.
Ex Medford Mayor McGlynn, no much you want to hate him, was politically correct. With a homosexual actor/brother, and the family dynasty at stake, McGlynn was the slickest local politican I have ever encountered and, obviously, I've encountered many.
A late mayoral candidate and dear friend of mine (he was actually a friend of our family, his grandmother and mine lived in a duplex in the 1930s in East Boston) affectionately told McGlynn he better look out for the P.O.F. (Pissed off "homosexual slur") McGlynn was horrified even though my friend told him I allowed his nonsense, McGlynn did the right thing. He told my late friend he simply cannot say those things.
Do you think for a second that cousin Anthony would be in power today under McGlynn? Mike McGlynn had some very sleazy associates and did some very underhanded things, but based on information and belief DiPierro would have been dead meat in McGlynn's eyes, cousin or not. That is where McGlynn drew the line. He did have some good qualities, the old alleged drunk, and with his lawyer cousins dying off as they have, put McGlynn in Howie Carr's death pool.
DeMaria's arrogance with a fraud like his cousin, Anthony DiPierro, nephew of the interim Everett Housing Authority Executive Director, Nicole DiPierro, was the first chip in the armor, and it was a huge one.
The gap, the chink, the crack only got wider with the misdeeds of Keith P. Slattery 11 months ago in August of 2025:

Assistant City Solicitor Keith P. Slattery, 53, was allegedly slurring his speech and became “abusive” toward a police officer who administered field sobriety tests after the July 22 Peabody crash, according to a police report filed in court.
“You’re stuttering, and I’m going to prosecute you because I’m a lawyer,” Slattery purportedly told the officer, who alleged Slattery blew 0.208% during a preliminary breath test to gauge his blood alcohol concentration.
Then fast-forward to Wayne Matewsky's "resignation," May 27, 2026, an essential piece of DeMaria's power base we are told and allegedly racist/fraud Anthony DiPierro's godfather! Allegedly.
EVERETT – Citing health-related issues, Councillor-at-Large Wayne Matewsky resigned from his position at the end of Tuesday’s May 26th City Council meeting, called it his retirement in city government.
Matewsky’s attorney, Alfred P. Farese Jr., acknowledged his client was interviewed by Everett police on May 21 about claims of sexual abuse. Five days later, Matewsky announced he was stepping down from the council seat he’d just won in November.
Matewsky, 68, told the Globe that he was resigning due to his declining health and advancing age.

The gap in the armor getting wider, Carlo
So you have the racism / elder abuse of the heir apparent, Anthony DiPierro, and allegedly credible allegations of sexual abuse against the "godfather," with Keith Slattery like an albatross around Carlo's neck, ( something that causes persistent deep concern or anxiety
And you know Carlo is starting to get the feeling that an allegedly inebriated ex mayor of Medford has a better chance of coming back....and McGlynn has zero chance of coming back anywhere.... say good night, Mike.... and Carlo....
